Our History
Rooted in Purpose, Growing Through Possibility.
For more than 65 years, Evergreen Life Services has worked to ensure individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities can live full, meaningful lives of their choosing.
1959
A Promise Begins
Four parents in Evergreen, Louisiana, envisioned a brighter future for their sons. With support from the Presbyterian Church, they opened Evergreen School in an abandoned schoolhouse—built on the belief that every person deserves opportunity, dignity, and belonging.
1980
A Shift Toward Community
Evergreen transitioned from institutional care to innovative community-based services, empowering individuals to live independently with personalized support.
1993
Inclusion in Action
More than 90% of individuals served were thriving in community settings—an early milestone reflecting Evergreen’s commitment to independence and inclusion.
Today

Evergreen now supports nearly 1,000 individuals across Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Florida. Through residential programs, vocational services, day programs, and independent living support, we meet each person where they are—celebrating strengths and empowering choice.
